Children at Incarnation

Christians are formed in the community. We partner with families in four ways to raise children who give their love and loyalty to Jesus Christ.

  • Church - We strive to be a healthy church, where our children can know and be known by other Christians.
  • Worship - Our Sunday morning worship service is our most important children's ministry. By worshipping with us, our children are formed in the Christian faith.
  • Home - The rhythms of our worship service overflow into the home through helpful spiritual practices like following the Christian Calendar, having regular times of devotion, and participating in daily prayer
  • Programs - Below you can read about the programs we offer for children.

fall 2021 programs for children

  • Nursery (infants – walkers)

Our nursery is located in the foyer, behind the curved wall. At this time, our nursery is not staffed but is available for infants and their parents/caregivers.

  • Toddler (confident walkers – 3 year olds)

The toddler room is located in the back hallway, in the room at the end of the hallway (our former Godly Play classroom). Screened and trained volunteers (who will be masked) play with and care for children, so parents can remain in the worship service. Parents, please fill out the sign in sheet before returning to the sanctuary. Children should be picked up during The Peace portion of the service, to join the congregation in the sanctuary for Eucharist.

  • Preschoolers (age 3 by 9/30/21 5 or 6 years)

We welcome preschoolers to the children's ministry room, beside the ladies' bathroom, during both services. The door for this classroom closes 10 minutes after each service beings. Arrive a few minutes early to get settled in! Children will wait in the hallway with the Greeter, and be returned to their parents/guardians during The Peace portion of the service, to join the congregation for Eucharist. Screened and trained volunteers (who will be masked) teach this class.

  • Elementary Children (K 5th grade)

Children in kindergarten through 5th grade are dismissed prior to the sermon, during both services, to gather in the foyer. Children join their parents/guardians during The Peace portion of the service, to join the congregation for Eucharist.

Masks are required for everyone age 2 and older while inside our church building participating in our children's programs. We know this is very difficult for some. We are sorry. Please reach out if we can help you. This decision was made based upon the recommendations from the CDC and the Virginia Public Health Emergency Order of August 12, 2021.
