Art & Eros is a playful yet profound dramatic work on the nature of art, presenting us with timely (and timeless) questions about art’s relationship to truth and reality, to politics and religion, to beauty and morality, and to love. Lighthearted and enlightening, it is Iris Murdoch’s updated take on a Socratic dialogue, in which we find Socrates, Plato, and their friends gathered together to eat, drink, and wrestle not only with art’s meaning but also for each other’s attention—and affection. The work both addresses and fully brings to life so many of our desires, such as the desire for truth, for power, for goodness, and for love.
Directed by Michael Trocchia, the reading features cast members Philip Bly, Declan Leach, Rhys McClelland, Adam McKnight, Joe Seitz, and Becca Stehle.
