CASA Volunteer Interest Meeting

Did you know that there are currently over 300 children in our service area waiting for a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer? You can be an everyday hero for a child in foster care!

On July 21, Blue Ridge CASA for Children will hold a volunteer interest meeting at Church of the Incarnation located at 75 North Mason Street, Harrisonburg from 5:30-7:00pm.

Blue Ridge CASA for Children recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to bring individual attention, urgency, and advocacy to abused and neglected children in the foster care system, both in and out of the courtroom.

CASA volunteers are Court Appointed Special Advocates, the only adults in the courtroom who advocate solely for the child’s interests. The commitment is on average a year to a year and a half. Kids might go through multiple social workers or get moved to different homes, but they will only have one CASA. Ciera Brennan is a CASA volunteer from Incarnation who writes, “As CASAs, we see our kiddos every month, observe family interactions and write a court report that the judge reads. Harrisonburg has the second-highest caseload in Virginia, after Richmond, so there is a high need for advocates in our city.”

Come learn about this opportunity and see if you might be an everyday hero for a child in foster care!
