Caution, Wisdom, and Joy

We are following the guidelines from federal, state, and local government leaders, along with the medical and scientific communities, to gather in our building and outdoors for worship on Sunday mornings. Below you can find the three-step plan that outlines the steps we are taking as we gather. Additionally, we will continue to livestream our worship service every Sunday morning.

  • STEP One: BEGAN May 17

Over these two weeks, we held two indoor services with a small group of people to ensure we could honor the mandates and guidelines of our government (federal, state, and city) and the medical and scientific communities (e.g., Virginia Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control, local physicians, etc.).

  • STEP TWO: BEGAN May 31

On May 31, we reopened our doors at 292 N. Liberty St for physical worship with a smaller-than-usual capacity and heightened precautionary measures. We have also begun occasional outdoor services.

It has been amazing to see beloved faces again!

During this stage of our plan, church looks a bit different. Here's how:

What does limited capacity look like?

Following state and local guidelines, we're seating every household six feet apart. To help us use our space well, we're asking everyone who plans to attend please to RSVP!

Will there be a nursery and children's ministry?

To observe social distancing, we are temporarily suspending the nursery and toddler ministries. During the sermon, we have a Bible story time for children K–5th grade (masks required). To learn how we're ministering to our kids during this strange time, contact our children's minister, Vicki Nolt.

Two indoor services have now begun to be offered during Step 2. The indoor services will occur at

    8:30 am

10:30 am * (This service will also be livestreamed.)

    Be sure to reserve seats!

(As weather permits, indoor services alternate every other week with one outdoor service.)

Our priority is to proclaim the good news that God loves the world and offers salvation from sin through his Son, Jesus Christ. As we share this good news, we're exercising caution and wisdom.

    • We've limited RSVPs to allow a maximum of 35% of our building's capacity, so everyone can maintain social distance from others.
    • Households will be seated together, but otherwise please maintain six feet of physical distance at all times.
    • Kids are welcome at worship! Please help them distance from others and bring activities for them.
    • Masks are required to attend indoor worship. Masks are required for those 10 year olds and up. Masks are recommended for 3 year olds to 9 year olds.
    • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the lobby. Please use it!
    • When in shared spaces like the restrooms, please maintain distancing protocols.
    • We are consulting regularly with medical professionals to ensure that our cleaning practices are up-to-date.

    • If you’re not feeling well, please stay home. (Anyone who has had any of the following symptoms in the last seven days is not allowed in the building: fever over 100º, cough or sore throat, shortness of breath, contact with anyone confirmed to have COVID-19 (in the past 14 days).
    • We have made it possible for every person to enter and exit the building without coming within six feet of another congregant. Please respect others by maintaining safe distances.
    • When in shared spaces like the restrooms, please maintain distancing protocols.

As you can imagine, regathering requires us to honor folks with vastly different comfort levels. We must care for others in how we reopen. Thank you for loving your neighbor as we work to make worship feasible for everyone under these trying circumstances!

  • Step Three: TBD

We look forward to the day when we are able to return to a normal worship schedule along with all regular ministries without major restrictions. This date for such a return is to be determined.
