Christians are called to live out their faith in every aspect of their life. Although our lives far exceed that of the institutional church, the local congregation is "the primary place in which we encounter Christ as we gather around him to hear his address and to eat and drink of his life" (Craig Bartholomew).

We are committed to resist the tyranny of busyness in our culture. Thus, we do not have a lot of programs. As a church we are focused on the essential functions, the essential activities of the body of Christ, and on forming a community around them. By expending our energy on the essential actions of a church, we are brought to life.

outdoor worship

sunday, july 5

What's happening?

This Sunday, July 5, at 10 a.m., Incarnation is having an outdoor worship service! We are so looking forward to being together, hearing from God's Word, celebrating several baptisms and sharing the Lord's Supper, and hanging out for a socially distanced picnic afterwards.

Where and when is this happening?

This Sunday, July 5, we'll be meeting at the Cook family farm, 1631 Silver Lake Road, Dayton, VA 22821. The service will start at 10 a.m., so show up a bit early to find a comfortable spot to set up chairs or a blanket.

What should I bring?

There are several things you'll need to plan to bring, for during and after the service. Use this list to ensure you've got everything you need!

  • A mug or cup for Holy Communion. (To distribute communion safely, we'll be pouring the wine into a mug for each household.
  • Blankets / chairs. (We'll be gathering in a field. You'll need something to sit on!)
  • Sunscreen / hats
  • Bug spray
  • Water
  • A picnic lunch. (Please stick around afterward and enjoy a picnic lunch after the service! We'll all bring our own food, utensils, napkins, drinks, etc.
  • Anything else your household might need to be comfortable outside during the service (snacks, diaper / wipes, etc.).

Hey, wait – what if it rains?

If it rains, our outdoor service will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 12. If this does happen, please join us for livestreamed worship online! No in-person service will be held at the church building that Sunday.

Is there anything else I need to know?

As always, just keep in mind that folks have different comfort levels. Please maintain six feet between other households. And know that we are working hard to honor local, state, and federal guidelines, while staying up-to-date on the guidance of the medical community through regular consultation with physicians.

  • Godly Play

This is a model of instruction that teaches our children about God through stories, play and wonder. Godly Play is offered for children ages 3-6 (and ages 7-10 during Lent and Advent).

  • nursery and toddler

Newborns to 1 year olds are welcome to our nursery nook at the front of the building. This space can also be used by nursing mothers.

In the back hallway, just passed the bathrooms, you'll find our toddler room for 1-3 year olds.

Please fill out the sign in sheet before returning to the sanctuary, and when picking your children up.
